gus gus, the super-mutant ninja mouse

Last tuesday evening, Addie was in bed, and Jed and I were watching House when I saw a little grey furry creature scurry out from behind the TV and around the corner in the pantry. Yes. A MOUSE. A MOUSE IN MY HOUSE!!

I'm sooooo not okay with rodents. I don't like them in the wild, in a cage and especially in MY house. I, thinking I was actually being quite calm, pointed and said to Jed "mouse, mouse, mouse!" He jumped up and went over to the pantry, opened the door and it went running back out and behind the TV from where it had come from. OH THE HORROR. He tried to see where it went, couldn't find it and after 20 minutes or so said "guess Gus Gus got away" NOT. COOL. Ummm, not sure that guys get where us women, well at least myself, are coming from. He told me to just put out a couple of traps and we'd catch it eventually. SERIOUSLY??
Oh and he also informed me that somehow the front door hadn't been closed tight the night before and he had come downstairs at 3am to it wide open. UH SCARY. At least I know how the disgusting creature invaded my house. Needless to say I put out two traps the next day (which was me being very brave I thought) and we never saw another sign of it.

Soooo fast forward to this Thursday night. A week and two days later. After our Thursday night shows, we went up to our bedroom to go to bed at 11:45. I opened the drawer to get out pajamas and when I closed it, out from behind the dresser I caught a black blur out of the corner of my eye from the dresser to under the bed. I really thought I just was seeing things, till Jed walked out of the bathroom, "did you see that??" Ahhhh!!! MOUSE in my BEDROOM!
Okay, first of all, how did a mouse even get up the freaking stairs?!

So as I sit ON the bathroom counter, Jed starts tearing our room apart trying to see where it went. I muster the ability to cross the room to the bed and make my post up there trying to see if I can see any sign of it. Nothing. Ugh. We were both sooo tired, but there was NO WAY I was sleeping in the same room as that thing. I don't care if it is tiny, or as Jed said, and "irrational fear". It's filthy and is totally throwing of my whole groove and zen and all that.

Jed went downstairs and got one of the traps and we came up with a plan to scare it out of wherever it was hiding and into the trap. Umm, so for future reference, mice are FAST and they're sneaky! Jed was searching behind our bed and nightstands as I, weilding a curtain rod (yes that's right) was ready to strike if I saw it.
I gently hit the wall behind the dresser with it on a hunch and there that sucker went again! Across the room and once again under our bed. (you know the kind sized, temperpedic mattress adorned bed that weights like a thousand pounds that we can't move)

I once again jump onto it and Jed starts trying to find/scare it again. This goes on for an HOUR. It would run somewhere, find refuge, then take us forever to figure out where and so on. I kept telling Jed "dude this is a friggin Ninja mouse! This is NOT Gus Gus!" of course then Jed referred to it as Splinter from TMNT. Yep, he's a geek, but I love him cause he was chasing a mouse around for me. I still think naming something you're trying to kill is a bad idea though.....

It finally ran back behind the dresser and so Jed put the trap at the exit and banged the wall again on the other side and there it went- SNAP! I'll now spare you the details of Jed "finishing the job" cause really I can't think about it or relive it. My heart was pounding so hard it is again as I'm writing this. Ha, yep, I'm a wuss. Alas, the mouse was dead. Dead and gone. I really just wanted in gone, but I accepted that dead would have to happen first. If he'd cooperated, we would have spared his life, but he didn't. So sorry Gus Gus. This is OUR house and we don't share with disease-ridden small furry things.

So after putting our room back together, cause it was torn completely apart, we went to bed. I serioulsy laid there for an hour before I could sleep. I felt so itchy, creepy-crawly, and had all sorts of adrenaline running through me.

I'm very happy that I no longer have to be scared to open the pantry or worry about seeing that thing. Whew. Please don't let PETA see this post blogging friends okay? :)

Socializing and Sick days

I hate being sick I've decided. I get SO behind on everything! What's worse is having a sick kid who won't let you out of her sight and cries when you go to the bathroom. Yep it's been that kind of week. My house is a disaster, I'm behind with work and WORST of all- I'm behind on my blogging! So here's the short of everything I've needed to blog for over a week now. See? I'm sparing you. It could be MUCH longer :)

First off, I had a fabulous birthday Monday and want to thank all of you for the birthday wishes! Luckily the plague didn't hit our house till the next morning. Oh boy did it! Addie is still sick, I got it a day after her and Jed now has it too. Bleh.

Anyway, Here's what we did before we were all SICK.

My little punkin

Plethora of Playdates

We went over to Amanda's house to play with her and Max, but I didn't take any pictures. Lame. We baked cookies so I was distracted.

The next morning we had a cyber play date. Yep that's right, we're high tech.

Not a great picture, but there's Reagan saying "Hi" to me and Addie. It was fun to chat for a few minutes and see the girls' reactions to seeing each other on the computer.

The next day, Niki, Lizzie and Charlotte came over and we made some Halloween- esque cupcakes. Just some simple ones, not too fancy, but fun.

We let the girls decorate their own cupcake, which consisted of them eating frosting and Addie jabbing her cupcake with a Popsicle stick.

On Monday we went to the treehouse with my sister in laws, Melissa and Tammy and their boys Deacon and Beckam. It was fun, but I forgot to take pictures. Again. Blast. I did manage to snap this on my phone of Beckam and Addie holding hands walking together. PRECIOUS.

Our Sunday today consisted of all of us still being sick, then trying to pretend we weren't so we could get family pictures taken later with my mom and our family.
Addie reading the morning paper with daddy in her curlers. Man I wish I looked half as cute as she does in the morning.

Proof that Addie did smile during pictures, because I'm pretty sure she didn't in ANY of them. She wasn't a happy girl. I feel bad she's still sick. Poor sweetie.

Giving uncle Chad some loves.

Addie is obsessed with this inflatable spider in my mom's neighbors' yard. She looks out the window at it all the time and was excited to show it to cousin Beckam today. So funny and random.

Street performance

Friday night, we went down to the gateway to meet my dad and stepmom for dinner for our birthdays that are in October. Addie LOVED the two-guy band outside playing music. She seriously did this for about 20 minutes :)

She drew a crowd too.....all the people coming down the escalator were all giggling and smiling at her sweet dance moves.

Happy 27th Birthday Jenny!!!! Yes. I've hijacked the blog for a day to wish my wife and Addie's mommy a happy birthday. Enjoy these photos:

Top Ten things I love about Jenny:
1. How she insists on smelling evertything before she eats it.
2. Her unfailing (if not always deserved) faith in me as a husband, father and provider.
3. She is the best mommy I could ever hope for to Addison
4. Her rockin body ;)
5. They way she somehow manages to "accidentially" color coordinate her outfits with Addie's.
6. Her ability to make our house a proper home.
7. Her unfailing "do unto others..." additude.
8. Her mutant superpower of making friends with strangers in the grocery store.
9. A grilled cheese sandwich dipped in fry sauce and a diet cherry lime is an acceptable dinner to her.
10. She's mine for eternity!!!!!
Happy Birthday sweetheart. Don't feel bad about getting old. We're just getting started.
I Love You.

Cold, Cuddles and Conference

This week got COLD for a couple of days. I was okay with it being rainy and cold all day on Wednesday because it meant staying inside and getting to cuddle with this cute little guy.

Addie and I hung out at Grammy Dawn's house since it was her day off and Whit and Tristan came up so we could help her (okay, really she's doing good and didn't need much help, but we all wanted to play with him)

Addie saying "Hi baby!" She likes to give baby Tristan loves and she's been really good at being soft with him. Sweet little cousins :)

Couldn't you cuddle this sweet little guy ALL day?! So I'm totally down with cold weather if it means that I get newborn cuddles. Also, I got to put Addie in cute new fall clothes AND snuggly feet sleeper jammies :) Oh how I heart those jammies. Sooo soft and snuggly. She's been getting some teeth the past couple of days too, so she's been more cuddly than usual.
Today, for conference I decided to make cinnamon rolls. My mom makes these almost every general conference and they just go so well with the cooler fall weather. I decided that I'd attempt them myself this morning, with the help of this cute little helper in her monkey sleeper.

She loved that she was "helping" and loved tasting them as we made them. It made me happy to do something with my little daughter that I've done with my mom as long as I can remember.
They turned out pretty good too!
I love general conference and feel so uplifted by the messages we got from our prophet and apostles. It was very cute to hear Addie try and say Monson and Uchtdorf too ;) She wasn't too thrilled about the fact that for 2 hours this morning she got the boot from watching any of "her" shows. When she heard the choir start to sing in the middle of it, she ran over to the TV and said "Allll done, all done! Ober" Nice try Addie, nice try......

I'm thankful I had the chance to watch conference today and will again tomorrow. I'm also very excited about the announcement of a temple in Brigham City!! That's awesome. We didn't make it to the open houses for the last two with Addie so I am looking forward to taking my little child to see the temple once its built. Yay for temples!
